I never even laid eyes on Whitney Houston in person, but her death has hit me hard. Both Monica and Brandy have ALWAYS talked about how much they idolized Whitney, so I know this was tough for them to deal with. I was just talking to my sister yesterday and mentioned that Monica is the closest thing to a Whitney this generation will get. In my Whitney tribute, I posted the "Shoop" video that they discussed. In it, Whitney spoke on how great of of a singer Monica was.
Just cause I'm slick nosey, I'm curious about what that letter said. If I were Brandy, I wouldn't share it with the world either.
As I watched this season of Brandy and RayJ's show, Family Business I often wondered why we never saw Syrai, Brandy's daughter. Brandy recently interviewed with Parade and explained why she chose to keep her daughter away from the public.
That’s strictly because her father and I felt it was best for her to have as
much of a normal life as possible. Of course, you’ve seen her on one episode on
‘For the Love of Ray J,’ but it wasn’t every day. You didn’t see her going to
school, me combing her hair, or any aspect of our private, intimate moments,
which sort of sucks because our relationship is so beautiful. I love being a mom and I’m raising her in a different way
than how I was raised. Some things that my mom did with me, I do with my
daughter — it’s just a different dynamic. I would love for people to see how I’m
doing it because I think I could be a good example of a young, single mom.”
I can TOTALLY understand why she kept her baby away from the cameras. She's a child and honestly doesn't need to be seen in every episode of the show. I might have had her make a small cameo or something, but that's just me. There were times I had to remind myself that Brandy is a mom simply because we rarely see Syrai. “A lot of mothers feel like they’re the mom first,
with that authority. But for me, I’m a friend first. I believe that just being
there for my daughter as a friend more than ‘I’m in charge…’ causes her to be
more open with me as a person. That’s just what our relationship is. Of course,
there are times when I have to discipline her — I’m mom. But there’s still that
nurturing and love there that we have. I know I’ll probably get flack for being
a friend first, but it really works. She’s really honest with me. I’m just
teaching her how to trust herself. I tell her all the time that my life is not
your life — you have your own life.
“At the end of the day we’re going to be
friends. When she grows up, it’ll be about that friendship that we’ll have.
She’ll come to me for any problems that she has. If I have an authoritative wall
up, she’s going to rebel and not come to me and I don’t want that.”
I bet she's a good mommy and I for one can appreciate her keeping her baby away from all the BS that is sure to come with putting her out into the public eye. I'm not really sure how I feel about the "friend first" thing, but I can say she has a point. As long as the friend thing isn't taken too far, it sounds like it could work. What do you guys think?

I cant wait for them to get back in the studio together, "The Boy Is Mine" was my jam back in the day (and still is). I remember we (me, my sister and our friend) performed it at Rust College YEARS ago. When we first got up there the crowd was acting an azz, but you couldn't tell us we weren't Brandy and Monica LMAO. We shut it down once we got them quiet, ahhhh, memories. Anywho, both Brandy and Monica have beautiful voices so I'm sure they will straight KILL a ballad. Of course it'll be posted here as soon as it's out.
Brandy and RayJ are covering the April issue of JET Magazine. The two also appeared on George Lopez's show to talk about their new reality show "Family Business" which premieres on VH1 this Sunday night. Check the video.
I've always liked Brandy, and RayJ is such a little cutie pie so I'll most def be checking them out. Y'all know I'm a reality TV junkie, but I've seen people make comments against celebrities going this route. I realized that some of these celebs have fans that don't even know who they really are. I was in the beauty shop one day and this little girl (maybe about 9/10 years old) and her friend were looking in a magazine. She looked up from the magazine and told her friend "Girl, Moesha's real name is Brandy." I thought that was the FUNNIEST ish ever because they really didn't know who B-Rocka was LOL. If a reality show is done right, I don't see any problem in celebrities increasing their fan base and making that money.
BTW, Brandy is NOT feeling a RayJ getting back with Kim LOL.
